This comedy film is directed by Adam Mckay who is primarily known as a TV series director. Though McKay’s earlier works were not that remarkable, somehow he managed to prove something through this movie.
Aside from the two leading actors, Samuel Jackson portrayed a big role here. As expected, Samuel Jackson’s portrayal is excellent. Together with will Ferrel, Mark Wahlberg is a terrific choice for his role as a detective here. It is also worth mentioning that cinematography is quite fantastic.
As a comedy film, it has a detective story format combined with some mildly adrenaline pulling actions.
It worked for the most part, I would say. But the director could have focus more and improve on the second half of the film. I got no problem with the first half as it is very entertaining and has good pacing. However, it is just unfortunate that the momentum was lost and slips fast second half. With McKay’s earlier films Step Brothers and Talladega Nights, he is carving his own niche in the comedy-action genre.
The movie story is centered on two New York detectives played by Mark and Will. The plot is just very simple. But don’t let that simplicity fool you as funny twists and turns are certainly on the menu for the viewers to enjoy. But then again, I would honestly suggest that you watch this movie not for intellectual purposes but purely on entertainment ground.
In summary, the movie is a very good comedy action work with lots of funny antics thrown all over though the second half movie could have been better. Well, there is always next time. Even with this weakness, I won’t be surprised if the film could earn good standing in the box-office arena.
